EMDR therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression and panic disorders. It does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing emotions, thoughts or behaviours resulting from an issue instead allows the mind to resume its natural process. Yes, I said that it does not require extensive talking so it doesn’t mean hours of repeating the same story you have had to tell time and time before or indeed talking about something you may not even want to.
EMDR therapy can be used to address a wide range of challenges, including:
Anxiety, panic attacks and phobias
Chronic illness and medical issues
Depression and bipolar disorders
Dissociative disorders
Eating disorders
Grief and loss
Pain
Performance anxiety
Personality disorders
PTSD and other trauma and stress-related issues
Sexual assault
Sleep disturbance
Substance abuse and addiction
Violence and abuse
EMDR is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence), WHO (World Health Organisation) for the treatment of PTSD and Anxiety related disorders.
